Why Research?

Why research indeed?

Apparently, you can dance your PhD. The writing up of the damn thing is so 2007.

The winner of the postdoc section is nothing on my rendition - famous in pubs and dinner party venues across the country - of The 1929 Stockmarket Crash in New York Interpretive Dance. I thought the student winner was pretty good, but that might have been due to the loincloth.

I would love the chance to set my impression of Gore's National Partnership For Reinventing Government to interpretive dance. I think I might do it anyway.

Your interpretive dance is so 1929.

I interpret the 1987 Wall St crash. This includes a section where I interpret driving a yellow Saab convertible while snorting coke and listening to Christina Amphlett.*

*On that tack, I sure felt old when I was watching a random "coming of college age" film the other ady and the girl character - who was all of about 13 - was reminiscing about her 5th birthday party, where she thought she was so cool because she dressed up as Christina Aguilera and apparently that is, like, SO retro.

Ditto on the commenting unrelated to your post -- just wanted to say thanks for the heads-up. I've found one of the posts in question, but if you had a minute to point me to any others, I'd be grateful. Cheers.

Elisabeth - That sounds fantastic. Let me know if you record it and put it on youtube. Have you considered the use of spirit fingers?

Juicebar - you're so money, and you don't even know it

Rosie - Playing to your strengths is admirable. What about "interpretive drinking" instead?

Kat, Lee - great posts about dear ol' Chealsea from both of you.

Dave - I once handed up a cake as an essay. Don't give up hope!

Clea - I think for scientists, they're pretty bad with computers (IT and science are the same thing, right?). I had trouble viewing, and so did a few others. But I love the idea.

My mate does a brilliant interpretive dance of French History, particularly his interpretation of the French Revolution is a sight to behold.

Mel, there is so much scope there - the beheadings, the Scarlet Pumpernel, Marie Antoinette and the cake saga, storming of the Bastille... magnifique!

Rosie - I am currently LIMPING through an alcohol free week, considering whether or not 5 days can reasonably count as a week ("Oh, when I said AFW, I was referring to a working week...") so I'm not saying it's a bad thing....

... and I didn't really think you were Spanish, but hoped there might be a marauding Spanish pirate in your family tree.... no?

3 days on the wagon myself, and counting...

no pirates, alas. tis a thinly veiled reference to my real name (which is neither Rosie nor Cheeks)
